Elephant pants

I thought that I didn't have a pants fitting problem. Turns out this is not true, I just didn't have a digital camera with self-timer that allowed me to photograph a back view. Look at my first attempt at Vogue 1051...really, if I had wanted to make an elephant costume, I don't think that I could have done a better job.

Now that I have spent an entire weekend re-sewing random crotch seams, altering both side seams and in-seams and reducing the back crotch, this is what they look like. Not perfect, but as perfect as this pair is ever going to get.

I do like the flared, cuffed (hard to see in these photos) leg. This colour is part of my wardrobe plan. I didn't think it was too far off the browns that are my usual base, but I am having trouble working these into my wardrobe....I don't normally wear lighter coloured pants (I know these are a long way off white, but they seem light to me).

The tragic part of this story is that while I was at it, I decided to look at the back view of all the pants in my wardrobe. Pretty much the same story all around, so now I am going to have to go on a pants fitting crusade...which I had not planned for in my sewing projects this year. I am seriously considering purchasing Wild Ginger PMB4 to help me in my quest.

You did a great job of salvaging these pants! I'm glad you made it work.

Your line about the elephant costume is just hilarious! These pants did turn out pretty well, in the end.

You did an incredible job fising those pants. I can't believe it is the same pair.

Well done with the pants! I had a good giggle with your elephant pants line - I have been having my own struggle with a pants pattern this week-end so you really lightened the situation for me!

Oh Katherine! That was hilarious. I can swear to you that I've never secretly thought you looked like an elephant.

The elephant reference is too funny. I think the final pants look great on you! I still need to try my hand at making pants. One of these days...
