Peppermint

I am loving all the colour around this year.  Not only for my wardrobe, but also for my house.

This is my lounge room, in a rare state of tidiness.  We repainted the low table (sadly,  the paint didn't take and we will have to sand back and repeat because it is peeling off already) and I sewed up some new cushions.  The only problem with fresh new cushions are that they make the old couch look a little dingier.
The floral ones were made from some Marimekko tea towels that I bought for the kitchen but then decided that they did not look so good there.

This zig-zag cushion was made from 98 triangles, so there's a few hours of my life that I will never get back!  The blue is a denim (from shorts I haven't even made yet), the peppermint is a linen bought specifically for the cushions and the white is a twill leftover from the white pants I made last year.  It is my favourite of the cushions.

I wanted something white and textured for the final cushion, to balance things out.   I'm not 100% happy with this design, but I was ready to move onto to something else by this stage.

I have also repainted and recovered 4 directors chairs.  The fabric was hideously expensive, but is supposedly more mould resistant than other fabrics I have tried and I have seen it used with good results at one of my sister's houses.  I could have bought it in a 45 cm width and then all the chairs would have had matching stripes, but it was more economical to buy the 150 cm wide fabric, and I can live with non-matching stripes and I even have fabric leftover to make cushions for the outdoor couch.

I have also chosen peppermint colours for my next house-y project.  I am going to reupholster the cushions in these chairs that were part of my grandmother's dining setting, given to me by my sister when I moved house.  This time round I am going to cover the cushions with oilcloth.  It does feel a little tacky to sit on, but the combination of young children and the tropics makes it a practical and cheap choice.  I have 6 chairs. I have not yet decided whether to cover all the cushions in the same fabric or go for some mix and match fabrics.

Great colours - I love seeing projects that show another side of your creativity. If you haven't already it might be worth taking a look at www.fabrictraders.com.au for oilcloth and other outdoor fabrics.

Wow! Fun stuff. I absolutely love that peppermint color. I can't believe you made that pillow with 98 triangles!! And I say mix and match those dining room chairs.

You have great soft furnishings now, worth those hours of your life!
Would you please share your anti mould unfortunately expensive deck chair fabric source? My deck chairs are in a sadly faded state and no doubt are developing mould should I inspect them too closely.

I looove all Marimekko, especially yours! As to the peppermint color, that must be a global thing; I bought a predominantly peppermint colored scarf a couple of months ago, and I wear it all the time, my absolute favorite. Such a happy color!

looking good - admire the freshness of your choices - the thing about making one cool and groovey thing is that it does suddenly make everything around it look drabber - which is of course and opportunity to spruce everything up - if only there was more time...
