Refashion: bra to Gatsby style head piece

Okay, so it would appear that my blog is just limping along right now.  Not sure exactly why, but I can't seem to bring myself to blog.  Sure, I am sewing less, but I still have about a half a dozen projects to share.  I haven't been commenting on other blogs of late either...I'm so sorry...I have always enjoyed sharing with the online sewing community.  I'm sure this time will pass and I will be back to blogging soon, in the meantime, I'll just continue to limp along with random posts.

Which brings me to today's quick project.  I have a 1920's party to attend.  I got onto to Etsy to order a headpiece, but it takes so long and costs so much for things to ship here, that I thought I had better rummage through my boxes and boxes of sewing stuff to see what I could come up with (and I confess, my internet connection went down just as I was about to click "buy now").

I have kept a handful of old RTW bras, mostly to refer to construction techniques.  One of these was really pretty, and in good shape (because it didn't fit me for very long).  I cut it apart and added some bling and I think it is as good as what I was going to buy.  The bra elastic means it's comfortable.  The sliders made it adjustable.  And all for free.

Putting your underwear on your head is one of the oldest party tricks in the book, isn't it?

I have a recent photo I took of my daughter and some of her friends with underwear on their heads that I plan to break out at her 21st, and I'm guessing they will be wishing they were wearing lovely little headpieces instead of little girl knickers. I'm going to check out the link above to see if perhaps they're actually totally on-trend and I shouldn't be mocking them.

Oh too funny!!! I can't stop giggling. The headpiece is GORGEOUS, all thanks to the very pretty bra you've chopped up :) I'll have to keep this in mind... I too now keep my old bras for reference, could be very handy when I'm next invited to a 1920's costumer party! Looks great :)

So funny! No one will ever know it's a bra. I love these pictures of you. Posed like a renaissance beauty.

This gave me a good chuckle. Whatever the source, you came up with a pretty headpiece!

This made me smile. You are the epitome of resourcefulness and creativity. I would have never guessed the source of your headpiece.
