It was such a fun thing to do. We started by selecting 2 m of fabric from the shop front. We then examined the blocks on offer and tested out our selections of fabric, blocks and paint on some scraps, before settling down to the business of printing fabric. The classes are run by Liz, at the back of her shop, and she creates a lovely relaxed environment to pass on her block printing wisdom. Of course, it was all the more fun because I got to share the experience with sewing buddies Sue of <a href="https://fadanista.com/" target="_blank">Fadanista</a> and Megan of <a href="http://www.meggipeg.com/" target="_blank">Meggipeg</a>. </p><p>Sue chose to use a single block and set out to create a border print.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEW99V3YqEvx_BeMSrz6ZCbgCC9J4RoEpYjl7yJOVBAktbbZ9CQ3tj1JKC-seSZqLVL6UAkZtgxWNve2YoGMa7V9_3UcIj_ynONpF8F6kmWxJHGjc2HvYxughn1FEj5uOWNqfqnQi0LmM/s2048/IMG_7381.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEW99V3YqEvx_BeMSrz6ZCbgCC9J4RoEpYjl7yJOVBAktbbZ9CQ3tj1JKC-seSZqLVL6UAkZtgxWNve2YoGMa7V9_3UcIj_ynONpF8F6kmWxJHGjc2HvYxughn1FEj5uOWNqfqnQi0LmM/w480-h640/IMG_7381.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi85FdmvPEbSYJk86_U2bPEqU7wUUMyMDROa9_4558s1dEjiFKH6VFxUKhgCtFe2MGNfuQOZ6vvj-vOA9NySLL-9Sdml6gVgCnQ79aRgYwdxZ1PiFcKaucp5GPPX7iQUg7ziKIxDePyhio/s2048/IMG_7383.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi85FdmvPEbSYJk86_U2bPEqU7wUUMyMDROa9_4558s1dEjiFKH6VFxUKhgCtFe2MGNfuQOZ6vvj-vOA9NySLL-9Sdml6gVgCnQ79aRgYwdxZ1PiFcKaucp5GPPX7iQUg7ziKIxDePyhio/w480-h640/IMG_7383.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div>Megan chose two different fabrics, and used the same combination of block and paint on each of them. Doing a workshop is a great way to try out something without having to buy all the gear. Turns out, block printing is not really my thing. It didn't take me too long to get bored, so by the end I was just slapping down blocks and paint trying to get it done already. Luckily, Woven Stories stocks a great selection of (already) block printed fabric!<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitgcumz4P80SbqOy0OAxCTl5uZJQ0a49_q_pg4UdQ9nFgNR82P8ehw6tX41Hhb-M0bcjvwco9meLZngvrcWHxe9fCxtnVAjCbh80XwEg9OULS5JQeSXtOMJKSH5WrfSu64BuBzHnjoMQw/s2048/IMG_7388.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitgcumz4P80SbqOy0OAxCTl5uZJQ0a49_q_pg4UdQ9nFgNR82P8ehw6tX41Hhb-M0bcjvwco9meLZngvrcWHxe9fCxtnVAjCbh80XwEg9OULS5JQeSXtOMJKSH5WrfSu64BuBzHnjoMQw/w480-h640/IMG_7388.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br />Here is my fabric after I took it home and washed it. Quite a bit of the colour washed out, so I am thinking that I did not take enough time with the heat pressing step before washing.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOnLzDLNS16MPEjSp5pSmlk-n2xOf8GX3PCBh1g8AvwJoKTRFwYW9VpVPKLbAo7GvskcLiZt-KqUzOPgFM4y0caK8dxznpppOnR_nc6y1YsrGUK6XNMzqeLDfUh0zBWksH5DdpxaDJH8Y/w640-h480/IMG_7396.JPG" width="640" /></div><div><br /></div><div>Next was to find a suitable project for my fabric. I decided to continue my journey of new experiences and chose a pattern from one of the Japanese sewing books that I have owned for years and never used (it was published in 2010 and I think I bought it in 2011). I bought my book in Japan, so it doesn't have an English title, but after a little bit of sleuthing, I have found a <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Chronicle-Books-Feminine-Wardrobe-Resort/dp/1780671245" target="_blank">link to the same book on Amazon</a>. My top is made using pattern C1. I chose to use wider elastic in the cuffs than the pattern suggestions. The base fabric has a width of 120 cm, and surprisingly, I had to scrimp to get this top out of my 2 m. </div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSSDCALDFadMBDBq8-dWubHUhcYzHiRRcuy0GpMGZv7soDBp-lwNynx1s9zN9H3f9sJtzO5ZJ1tbD3rV8Bai-bFA1IBlCFrZnNJ3amtQZsJXznQ8erW3LEjsvN5Sa-qDbUD4HUs_0mInc/s2048/IMG_7527.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1531" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSSDCALDFadMBDBq8-dWubHUhcYzHiRRcuy0GpMGZv7soDBp-lwNynx1s9zN9H3f9sJtzO5ZJ1tbD3rV8Bai-bFA1IBlCFrZnNJ3amtQZsJXznQ8erW3LEjsvN5Sa-qDbUD4HUs_0mInc/w478-h640/IMG_7527.JPG" width="478" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div>Of course, we then had to meetup to see how everyone had used their fabric. Sewing outings are the best outings. </div><div><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYONbwRzq3Mrxi8dIEUnR2Ugleh8CjqP6QQCH1fUnNOqyETQFeNKgD1M3WOZMX_OAe_JUSgoFa60Hhejt55Q50hF55-cY4c6jrMJFf9QvNDgZJFQ0LRcZZTDo2PvqnwdiTlGa5zMDAKew/s2048/IMG_0288.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1447" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYONbwRzq3Mrxi8dIEUnR2Ugleh8CjqP6QQCH1fUnNOqyETQFeNKgD1M3WOZMX_OAe_JUSgoFa60Hhejt55Q50hF55-cY4c6jrMJFf9QvNDgZJFQ0LRcZZTDo2PvqnwdiTlGa5zMDAKew/w452-h640/IMG_0288.JPG" width="452" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8qMxs1_gl9TYiUdBe545exYgSJMBWuwdNyF7gAK20uZcpfg7XOLRpUt8oDb4-AK14wYsfatv67VYiHMGUW7HcAKIongb8ni6xp60HUr14Ph6_uROxdIJrV5zmQeFUZsc_T7GwRed8t94/s2001/IMG_0287.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2001" data-original-width="1605" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8qMxs1_gl9TYiUdBe545exYgSJMBWuwdNyF7gAK20uZcpfg7XOLRpUt8oDb4-AK14wYsfatv67VYiHMGUW7HcAKIongb8ni6xp60HUr14Ph6_uROxdIJrV5zmQeFUZsc_T7GwRed8t94/w514-h640/IMG_0287.JPG" width="514" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0000ee;"><u><br /></u></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0000ee;"><u><br /></u></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCM6411v04vp1tROC2P6H7r5-sqVeN-Mlhdj962wsTZFAH1V9OTptIwq7ggltAclKj3ooEELg4D45nwDybNDaMAtZ_exuEHztW0SOkyUt-YDsI4m3dFCbEygmf-ot5HkXAjLY-oBETmss/s1989/IMG_0286.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1989" data-original-width="1443" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCM6411v04vp1tROC2P6H7r5-sqVeN-Mlhdj962wsTZFAH1V9OTptIwq7ggltAclKj3ooEELg4D45nwDybNDaMAtZ_exuEHztW0SOkyUt-YDsI4m3dFCbEygmf-ot5HkXAjLY-oBETmss/s320/IMG_0286.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0000ee;"><u><br /></u></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0000ee;"><u><br /></u></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0000ee;"><u><br /></u></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0000ee;"><u><br /></u></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0000ee;"><u><br /></u></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0000ee;"><u><br /></u></span></div><br /><br /><br /><br />katherine hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17314030133556269765noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7351864927910092883.post-36374802439138289692020-12-15T04:30:00.003-08:002020-12-15T04:30:26.793-08:00Stylearc Austin Jacket<p>I made this <a href="https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/austin-jacket/" target="_blank">Stylearc Austin Jacket</a> a few months ago, but I must confess to hardly wearing it. I think I chose the wrong fabric. Having lived in very hot climates for most of my life, I haven't quite got the hang of layering. Since I made this, I realise that when I want to put a jacket on, I want it to be weather proof in some way, to protect from wind and / or rain. </p><p>The fabric I used is a <a href="https://www.maaidesign.com.au/collections/viscose-linen-noil" target="_blank">viscose linen noil from maaidesign</a>. I don't even know what noil is. I think I was swayed by the pattern cover, which has the jacket drawn up in this same colour. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVfY9c6_aeKi-l35g6MDnIsjGRYVBLwJ9XuyvJGDl9YZbORDgDhHYqCtT2iQXH7PQ2K-i3cq9NjRBbxPHEtNjdNibyHTkvE5MyYMRvRgk4wLSXiniWuTTM35mghEwwcg93aXWkiqoSwHU/s2048/ACS_0788.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVfY9c6_aeKi-l35g6MDnIsjGRYVBLwJ9XuyvJGDl9YZbORDgDhHYqCtT2iQXH7PQ2K-i3cq9NjRBbxPHEtNjdNibyHTkvE5MyYMRvRgk4wLSXiniWuTTM35mghEwwcg93aXWkiqoSwHU/w240-h320/ACS_0788.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz0dyda4at_MffZFQEU6izZdaflUEO08Kk-yjfqnFFnhyphenhyphenS3ODG8z6tF1eB0ikvXBZitVX3Ut9ZsJUryfIO7E2A7ZNjQh0a4imxnd-5hndJJPx1wu-pEx_QSOrG2v8U20VaBhN1DOBpLh4/s2048/ACS_0789.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz0dyda4at_MffZFQEU6izZdaflUEO08Kk-yjfqnFFnhyphenhyphenS3ODG8z6tF1eB0ikvXBZitVX3Ut9ZsJUryfIO7E2A7ZNjQh0a4imxnd-5hndJJPx1wu-pEx_QSOrG2v8U20VaBhN1DOBpLh4/s320/ACS_0789.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I left off the pockets, because the placement seemed a bit odd and not like somewhere I'd stick my phone. I've had this window sitting open on the computer for days, but am having trouble sitting down and writing. Frocktails is such a fabulous event that it definitely deserves a post. It really feels like I am getting together with my tribe. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">I don't think that I talked to so many people this year, but all the sewing talk with those that I did. Shout out to Vanessa (I hope I haven't got your name wrong in the intervening weeks) who says she still reads my blog...and here I thought that I was back where I started, just blogging for my own records. So much sewing inspiration in one place. I learnt about <a href="https://neridahansen.com.au/" target="_blank">Nerida Hansen</a> fabrics, and have already received an order for her fabrics, hopefully to be made into a summery top for Christmas. Of course, the most fun is playing Guess The Pattern, discovering new patterns and rediscovering old favourites.</p><p>So, onto my dress.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEH1YU2U_hIRtiIuSwDJjZrBbaEb4nbqzLQ96wbas665MHyB318VC6F0ftDLg-grbVgDUr1kcAocR8ipfauwG5W72BUBabkQd368zfmB6sHHwq-ufngYQKmZD-OJQcNu1A4x6mB2aE8cw/s2048/ACS_0781.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEH1YU2U_hIRtiIuSwDJjZrBbaEb4nbqzLQ96wbas665MHyB318VC6F0ftDLg-grbVgDUr1kcAocR8ipfauwG5W72BUBabkQd368zfmB6sHHwq-ufngYQKmZD-OJQcNu1A4x6mB2aE8cw/w480-h640/ACS_0781.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I've had this fabric and pattern combination in mind for a few years now. It can take me a little while to implement a plan! I retrieved the fabric from my box of special fabrics, but it was originally from EmmaOneSock. I think that it is a viscose crepe. It has a bit of stretch in one direction and a lovely, heavy drape. The fabric is a print (I haven't done any clever colour blocking). Sadly, it frays terribly, and I did have a sticky moment when my neck facing pulled away from the dress whilst I was understitching it. 6 mm seam allowances on the facings might have been too narrow for this fabric, and fingers crossed that no more damage happens with wear.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaELzc6xZYYQCFVZiL-1BgEJRJz6rizvbcyihhDafY_BAR7bu1VaF0AjNFlDlBMkRQ_uBc2n3noJDlMbWv3pCcb3GEF8S2d9a-Tgd1D02YgrQXFp_GHGb0Yp8vrFt_QZUZNObzqQ8yGV8/s2048/ACS_0782.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaELzc6xZYYQCFVZiL-1BgEJRJz6rizvbcyihhDafY_BAR7bu1VaF0AjNFlDlBMkRQ_uBc2n3noJDlMbWv3pCcb3GEF8S2d9a-Tgd1D02YgrQXFp_GHGb0Yp8vrFt_QZUZNObzqQ8yGV8/s320/ACS_0782.JPG" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8hSGHg5aup50tl8P9iSOeYaFi4boQ7ZfskFa9IqmSR_EpBvOvvi7j6y2nlOJWC6D00cWVe1izYz9CMUBPDXCwh5r2w1WHJl6dORHdUsOf8iP9_Ror19l5FRU0NyurF362yE9t4g2lqYM/s2048/ACS_0783.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8hSGHg5aup50tl8P9iSOeYaFi4boQ7ZfskFa9IqmSR_EpBvOvvi7j6y2nlOJWC6D00cWVe1izYz9CMUBPDXCwh5r2w1WHJl6dORHdUsOf8iP9_Ror19l5FRU0NyurF362yE9t4g2lqYM/s320/ACS_0783.JPG" /></a></div><br /><p>The pattern is Burdastyle 04-2016-122. I took a bit of a risk in not making a muslin, just grading between sizes and making my usual pattern adjustments. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">The dress pattern is lined. The lining is for a fairly standard sheath dress. The outer pattern is shaped as a sheath dress, with extra volume for the drape, and not a-line as the photos would suggest. I was just about to cut out a Bemberg lining, when I realised that there was no walking room in the lining. I went back to check the pattern details (I'm not so good at reading pattern instructions these days) and sure enough, it recommended a stretch lining. My other concern with the lining was that the front neckline gapes a bit, both on the model and in previous versions I have seen made up, and the lining would probably show. I didn't have a suitable stretch lining fabric on hand. I thought about just putting a vent in the lining skirt, but in the end, decided that my fabric didn't need a lining and I was better off drafting a facing instead, and cutting it out of the same fabric as the dress. This had the added bonus of using up the odd shaped remnants of the fabric.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGkoGj4yX4YzT1SmYCq8FiLUCbYLlW-02KFWKJ8EyRaA5pKdXJmqE8sKB4SPasN8ciAforA6FhdmZCEs3SMxxxAyp0CbsQ4qWNvk8NdrI8g5QMBAGiPElSAv7cR3uMnN3nEUo_wWXh64Q/s2048/ACS_0839.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGkoGj4yX4YzT1SmYCq8FiLUCbYLlW-02KFWKJ8EyRaA5pKdXJmqE8sKB4SPasN8ciAforA6FhdmZCEs3SMxxxAyp0CbsQ4qWNvk8NdrI8g5QMBAGiPElSAv7cR3uMnN3nEUo_wWXh64Q/w300-h400/ACS_0839.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM-o42hmxqosfo3PIwpjYwPBaZPCjVoetM3_vOrfO7_bBmdDgHfUVtCujVdPo-hi8TgXgwtvGeRtidF8yD1TEKf3ltuYa7Ej5DkWQXYw5KkOnelRJ5oMOILpAGFg_E4Vg-hNOuiWqvEks/s2048/ACS_0838.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM-o42hmxqosfo3PIwpjYwPBaZPCjVoetM3_vOrfO7_bBmdDgHfUVtCujVdPo-hi8TgXgwtvGeRtidF8yD1TEKf3ltuYa7Ej5DkWQXYw5KkOnelRJ5oMOILpAGFg_E4Vg-hNOuiWqvEks/w300-h400/ACS_0838.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOIKLCXjU3-XNzvngI-f65UeMTE-mnD7fcOU2XaHdc6uvvYPP3gSt7dyaNqUCml7sgSbyP6BKK5EKw9NCYtZKSqj8djojqtv9Ahy6EBPRaiJuUoBkwJ9KC5UxWyWGvYKNqWYT1yaRfop4/s2048/ACS_0837.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOIKLCXjU3-XNzvngI-f65UeMTE-mnD7fcOU2XaHdc6uvvYPP3gSt7dyaNqUCml7sgSbyP6BKK5EKw9NCYtZKSqj8djojqtv9Ahy6EBPRaiJuUoBkwJ9KC5UxWyWGvYKNqWYT1yaRfop4/w300-h400/ACS_0837.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKg7M6Sl_ed6YZMObqKzqNQOt_6iLjM4cSgKN8A7Z233HPVxEwAybYf87-q7eiXxozLgCYD1_cynKfoFwcJCf6u5kX-cUv1LT4ayinpcW23zJvXfzC8Vjs5o9qCEcUJBk_5cx-5QRaLmE/s2048/ACS_0836.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKg7M6Sl_ed6YZMObqKzqNQOt_6iLjM4cSgKN8A7Z233HPVxEwAybYf87-q7eiXxozLgCYD1_cynKfoFwcJCf6u5kX-cUv1LT4ayinpcW23zJvXfzC8Vjs5o9qCEcUJBk_5cx-5QRaLmE/w300-h400/ACS_0836.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />Thanks so much to the organisers of Perth Frocktails. Possibly because this is the sort of clothing I used to wear in my teens / twenties...you know, not taking on the fads the second time around. Anyway, I should have got there sooner because I love wearing this jumpsuit.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLN67TqFraX5SvuHEsDn9QQ7vP9n1bBfjRyp59YfUEjTsfSVIP2gwjVSHXSd1s6ztSX7sBMobF_tjCzKpVsDLeAAGuDYKRtCSl7CqIPgnIlKHQvVYYk7RO41Y68UWUkEWGhSCGL5r7YVo/s2048/ACS_0760.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLN67TqFraX5SvuHEsDn9QQ7vP9n1bBfjRyp59YfUEjTsfSVIP2gwjVSHXSd1s6ztSX7sBMobF_tjCzKpVsDLeAAGuDYKRtCSl7CqIPgnIlKHQvVYYk7RO41Y68UWUkEWGhSCGL5r7YVo/w480-h640/ACS_0760.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><div><br /></div>There are plenty of jumpsuit patterns to choose from, but non of them was quite what I wanted. I thought it would be just as easy to start with a trouser patter that I already had, and make the required changes, as it would be to buy a new pattern and make alterations. Both options would require a muslin.<div><br /></div><div>I didn't want patch pockets, because they never seem to sit right once you fill them up. I didn't want in-seam pockets, because they flap about. I wanted curved inset pockets, which would necessitate a waist seam, at least in the front. </div><div><br /></div><div>I started with the <a href="https://jalie.com/jalie3676-vanessa-fluid-pants" target="_blank">Jalie 3676 Vanessa Pants</a>, and made the following changes</div><div><br /></div><div>- I added an inch to each side seam (ie total 4" added ease)</div><div>- I lowered the crotch by 3 cm (just watch me flit between metric and imperial)</div><div>- I added 5 cm to the waist height, which is the same height as the Jalie Vanessa waistband. I kept the back darts, extending them up to the new waist seam.</div><div>- I increased the height of the pocket pieces 5 cm to match. I also made the pockets a bit deeper, as the ones in my Vanessa pants are a bit shallow for my phone</div><div>- I created a bib shape for the front and back, with a bit of trial and error. The side curves on the bibs are quite low. They are actually are as high as I can make them without having to add a side opening, being pear shaped and all.</div><div>- the tops of the bibs are folded over. The side edges are finished with self-made bias binding.</div><div>- the straps are just rectangular tubes. They might have looked better a bit skinnier. I went with ties instead of buttons, because I thought the button holes would drag with the weight of the jumpsuit in this linen.</div><div>- I cropped the leg length and sewed a deep double fold hem that can be turned up as a cuff. Not that the cuffs stayed up on my walk to the beach. I might have to stitch them up.<br /><p><br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhudNJ3JG7QOn77Yh0da67QKSXJPyxRAK6GGnKu62wgdZ1HqmON-bkVENupXLp2l9uftAvU4L2KcHpu6TFQ4FkdBcvCve-4gJLRrEY-bTNe7bOv_tmIpBBu6Vb4k7bysI3SFV_x7R2JpWY/s2048/ACS_0761.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhudNJ3JG7QOn77Yh0da67QKSXJPyxRAK6GGnKu62wgdZ1HqmON-bkVENupXLp2l9uftAvU4L2KcHpu6TFQ4FkdBcvCve-4gJLRrEY-bTNe7bOv_tmIpBBu6Vb4k7bysI3SFV_x7R2JpWY/w480-h640/ACS_0761.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNiPkGvSGOVuBVSR49RPlYrxrCNuWuYsVLGlxZnwFpDFCXDEIvjsJiUtdBuwUNr2Lk20JjOqvcvthw4L7pIxW-JwExCJW3GvYAVdbgm6-LQNblMLAzTLFBD0grESs6pGXcO-Wmuqe8iPM/s2048/ACS_0756.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNiPkGvSGOVuBVSR49RPlYrxrCNuWuYsVLGlxZnwFpDFCXDEIvjsJiUtdBuwUNr2Lk20JjOqvcvthw4L7pIxW-JwExCJW3GvYAVdbgm6-LQNblMLAzTLFBD0grESs6pGXcO-Wmuqe8iPM/w480-h640/ACS_0756.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The fabric is a <a href="https://www.tessuti-shop.com/collections/heavy-weight-linen" target="_blank">beautiful linen twill from Tessuti</a>. I must confess I was excited when I saw it on the <a href="https://www.tessuti-shop.com/search?q=linen+twill" target="_blank">Tessuti website</a> and clicked "Add to bag" pretty quickly. When it arrived, it was even more luscious than I imagined. I washed and dried it, and then my daughter laughed when she found it draped over me whilst I was watching tv. It really has a lovely drape.</p><p>I decided on the <a href="https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/lennie-over-shirt/" target="_blank">Stylearc Lennie overshirt</a>. </p><p>I started with the popover placket. Instead of following the instructions, I decided to do it the same way I would sew a placket on a shirt sleeve. Only, I must have got the dimensions mixed up when I was cutting the placket, because after I sewed it on, the top didn't sit neatly over the underneath. I unpicked it, and followed the method given. Something went wrong there, not sure if it was Stylearc or my seam allowances or turn of cloth, but the upper still didn't sit neatly over the underneath. More unpicking. Not great for a linen twill. You can see the fabric giving way in the photo below.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1152" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcgwke5VX1FWDTHpijAzxpemcq_-UFtd7-EnSEbiA1LcIFi-APz89eKQHxYzdlA_vqITympTlP2q_MByVNobGvKScvjIxciaEQhr65Upi1_HApKlX81WmkvnXAHoSHSusNwQQPHaASaq0/w360-h640/CGMX8584.JPG" width="360" /></p><p><br /></p><p>I would need wider plackets to get them to lay on top of each other. I had enough fabric to cut new ones, but that would leave me with a not so useful remnant piece, so I decided to add to the existing plackets. I seamed some pieces together to make new plackets, as you can see in the photo below, with the outsides of the plackets being on the bias and the inside on the straight grain..</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL1xrZHKW1YRaNeF7AspAwt4vLP1yLZ22B1ABet6w2TFuZQUTQQGwOmN5FhcjTOwRd5gvi9AgnYSKqT94gwAA0hRdx-PNslBoeM8EJmmHJB_MbTO4HExpgjjd5CS6Ku4EYcylSO6LrCdk/s2048/IMG_4649.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL1xrZHKW1YRaNeF7AspAwt4vLP1yLZ22B1ABet6w2TFuZQUTQQGwOmN5FhcjTOwRd5gvi9AgnYSKqT94gwAA0hRdx-PNslBoeM8EJmmHJB_MbTO4HExpgjjd5CS6Ku4EYcylSO6LrCdk/w480-h640/IMG_4649.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Third time around, I got the placket in, but you can see that I had to stabilise the area with interfacing. Once I decided that was what I wanted, I trawled through my pattern collection to find a pattern. I landed on <a href="https://ottobredesign.blogspot.com/2019/01/ottobre-design-72018.html" target="_blank">Ottobre Family 7/2018 pattern 11</a>. I bought this magazine for the great selection of men's patterns, but so far the only pattern I have used are the elastic waist pajama bottoms.</p><p style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjW00KA85s8g2C548AEHEOoCY_ffxqT1_ZPa8BinhyphenhyphenhtFFstpbi84eWQi-VAWFhyRGgLGp9IHFSEoTJ7S6GBSGjXuOH9ak_GXJP6Jf8n65XXIGvrbl-396r3Fl1_LitYI_SZ21bCXXxHU/s2048/ACS_0300.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjW00KA85s8g2C548AEHEOoCY_ffxqT1_ZPa8BinhyphenhyphenhtFFstpbi84eWQi-VAWFhyRGgLGp9IHFSEoTJ7S6GBSGjXuOH9ak_GXJP6Jf8n65XXIGvrbl-396r3Fl1_LitYI_SZ21bCXXxHU/w480-h640/ACS_0300.JPG" width="480" /></a></p>Anyway, back to the hoodie. I knew that I wanted to add stripes. Deciding what colour stripes was the tricky bit. In the end, I went with the other fabrics that were already out on my cutting table. <div><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I made a couple of alterations to the pattern. The pattern looks like it has princess seams, but when I lay the pieces beside each other, it became clear that the seam lines were for colour blocking, rather than to add shaping. My usual alterations are square shoulder, narrow chest, broad back and small bust. I decided as I was doing these alterations that I would add a small bust dart into the front panel, similar to a Kathmandu fleece jacket I wear all the time. This hoodie is not as fitted as the Kathmandu one, so probably the dart wasn't necessary. Next time I make this up, I should raise this dart by ~2cm, as well as broaden the back.</div><div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1BEeWUBTOd3oSxpDDT-iWQvdBa_XNmeE0M6n2Uv9sH5Mfa4Dw07ikYj51BOUTRDnkug7FfqLv9ydugwoQmiFKdoHC1_aTv_A8Zjqh0Fhd67IUHiqMfumLqSNwfF9O-gI0bFBn_kk6QCQ/s2048/IMG_5229.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1BEeWUBTOd3oSxpDDT-iWQvdBa_XNmeE0M6n2Uv9sH5Mfa4Dw07ikYj51BOUTRDnkug7FfqLv9ydugwoQmiFKdoHC1_aTv_A8Zjqh0Fhd67IUHiqMfumLqSNwfF9O-gI0bFBn_kk6QCQ/w300-h400/IMG_5229.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: justify;">I changed the design of the pockets. With the placement of the stripes, the pocket area was getting all a bit bulky, So I made a pocket opening facing, and then just used one layer of fabric for the pocket back. You can see the facing stitching in the above photo. I then changed the shape of the pocket to a rectangle so that it would be caught in the front and hem and not flap about. I used the top-stitching of the strips to secure the top edge of the pocket. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWTOLAmTri5r5WvqQT-jyU3JK4U_VCAyXmzk3lzKr2T6krGMgD0QpxTeQPXAWsfdyAqCPumKTNHGehaDBeedDbQtyECcIqsyDXecMk1_4Z9l5JER1cn21Vxnk_VnWotzoFKJwzgybe2eA/s2048/ACS_0299.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWTOLAmTri5r5WvqQT-jyU3JK4U_VCAyXmzk3lzKr2T6krGMgD0QpxTeQPXAWsfdyAqCPumKTNHGehaDBeedDbQtyECcIqsyDXecMk1_4Z9l5JER1cn21Vxnk_VnWotzoFKJwzgybe2eA/w300-h400/ACS_0299.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I bought the wrong size zip (because I was in the shop for something else when I saw the zip and knew it would be a good colour match and just guessed the length). She assured me that I would have a completed garment before I left, and to my surprise, I actually did. Not like all my other started-not-completed knitting projects. The other fun part about this project is that you don't actually have to use yarn. I used a remnant that I got as part of a bundle that I didn't think I would use for another garment. I stitched the slevedges of the fabric together and then cut strips in a continuous loop. The coloured bits of the scarf are bamboo and merino scraps that were lying on my table from making t-shirts. I didn't take photos of the process, but you can <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CE1GLT2gyB8/" target="_blank">see a little</a> on Sue's instagram account. . </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqmVmh-auzJBpFMzXUw8jifKDC_c90ziAXlXALV_-IGmNwpr1prceOD_XBbmxm3JR_z0BJXfTlVtewGQ0v3PMt7mAmOjNUuBMYKoPOZW-rCKSDCuRrHu0Ao_6d9F23UypoChJ8BQaLy4w/s2048/ACS_0270.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="469" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqmVmh-auzJBpFMzXUw8jifKDC_c90ziAXlXALV_-IGmNwpr1prceOD_XBbmxm3JR_z0BJXfTlVtewGQ0v3PMt7mAmOjNUuBMYKoPOZW-rCKSDCuRrHu0Ao_6d9F23UypoChJ8BQaLy4w/w625-h469/ACS_0270.JPG" width="625" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">The jumper I was wearing was made by modifying the <a href="https://jalie.com/3890-mimosa-scoop-neck-t-shirts-sewing-pattern" target="_blank">Jalie Mimosa t-shirt pattern</a>. I changed the sleeves to have rib cuffs. I then cut 5 cm from the hem of the shirt pattern, so that I could put "cuffs" on the hems. This is actually a good way to avoid sewing regular hems in a rib knit, which often end up wavy. I then straightened the hem curve just by ruling a traight line from the top of the split to the intersection of my new hem line and the curved split.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="625" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrWeARlb8DKm2yytBpceetdydroQ_HVgMp6rRC2HWrdjs-E1tSobOHHbQkIFwP4oEDr62iOwD1O3cIJ47BCd_KM3uZLfHrdGi_teiaZVFpk9F1H03dLpufjd3dmixhFGOmAthoJD7E19E/w469-h625/IMG_5566.JPG" style="text-align: left;" width="469" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="625" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2L3KPhqtRxMR4HiiGbSQqkl0_17X7C2rcWjor3du4TWRJNsYh0YKUsb6ehW4C51bDFjrNjPWMkeQ6wsv1dr1UWLxnglaYgfQuDFv0gfBIJXWT-FfFSq3uM4LroAAokUyUmqtBAnzJ5hk/w469-h625/IMG_5571.JPG" style="text-align: left;" width="469" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">The striped tee is made in a linen knit from Knitwit. Making the side seams less curved seems to have solved this problem.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="625" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipdGWEGBkpVtlQgtpzhiUQM5SMxl8PECoSEVLpT7-KdLdDMNwJdTm_6Jic6zR-0RrQRd48QtmaUZFOnZfNr-Nu8C7YyRUHJtxM_qRI-Mt8Ph65U5Idch7WhYUf7mjv2pq4LL5jLgHc6Uk/w469-h625/IMG_5583.JPG" style="text-align: left;" width="469" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs9gHzHsdQDi-qZu__A2wCzj3jn6Qq68nBT3cz4HSXuEzzVVSgwgcZQ2y_QOBNw5YUn9UVFzs9Bk-VGbneLGbYpv3aeIfvh12orZStaKb8E96KNkqk0If9ipSKWgdKRQT5xq3hBGLPa1Q/s2048/IMG_5591.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="625" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs9gHzHsdQDi-qZu__A2wCzj3jn6Qq68nBT3cz4HSXuEzzVVSgwgcZQ2y_QOBNw5YUn9UVFzs9Bk-VGbneLGbYpv3aeIfvh12orZStaKb8E96KNkqk0If9ipSKWgdKRQT5xq3hBGLPa1Q/w469-h625/IMG_5591.JPG" width="469" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">And finally, my singlet, which would probably never have made it to my blog on its own. It is a merino sinlet, made using <a href="https://jalie.com/jalie3245-raglan-tee-racerback-tank-tunic-pattern" target="_blank">Jalie 3245</a>. I have made this pattern a lot, and always lower the underarms by at least an inch, for comfort. My merino binding wasn't working out, so I cut my losses and bound the edges with a bamboo knit. I have made 8 merino singlets this winter and am almost always wearing one....as a base layer, as pajamas, for exercise. Probably the only time I don't wear one is when I go for a swim. No point blogging winter pants in summer. I'd like to get them blogged before I move onto to later projects. Only I haven't managed to get photos that show the pants very well. And I combined a dubious pattern with dubious fabric, which I often do, because that way I am not throwing good money after bad. Just throwing all my shopping mistakes in together. So here they are, <a href="https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/teddy-designer-pant/" target="_blank">Stylearc Teddy Designer Pant </a> in green wool twill.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxzPLtYSh5eRDEgIrf_oi2v5hZ-sxSVbPJ-XQ96CXHTWDccT-poe4RIdbcE9jSohZ4L_e9a_Li3Z_GYCFuRiNIdq0sALaANGAwGSTgAINqlfAFvKJgiWRyBtvkMr8HOe4Bcvy8Eb8jSTw/s2048/ACS_0043.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1277" height="625" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxzPLtYSh5eRDEgIrf_oi2v5hZ-sxSVbPJ-XQ96CXHTWDccT-poe4RIdbcE9jSohZ4L_e9a_Li3Z_GYCFuRiNIdq0sALaANGAwGSTgAINqlfAFvKJgiWRyBtvkMr8HOe4Bcvy8Eb8jSTw/w391-h625/ACS_0043.JPG" width="391" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHnlPX8cHvoFrIr37wE1NN2reMo0BZVv72YP7WXzDnqAqnih17rZd15CK_lAu8gk8GQnHscw_pvhjFF0e37YtBnPXIUfvVE3FrU308lZ0fjzb__sQkoA7RcpQZ8y8TJGQ_S4KAPK0l17I/s2048/ACS_0197.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="625" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHnlPX8cHvoFrIr37wE1NN2reMo0BZVv72YP7WXzDnqAqnih17rZd15CK_lAu8gk8GQnHscw_pvhjFF0e37YtBnPXIUfvVE3FrU308lZ0fjzb__sQkoA7RcpQZ8y8TJGQ_S4KAPK0l17I/w469-h625/ACS_0197.JPG" width="469" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN00ibeSQoo3aVuDKUAk2rhTRtZfEzmf_nF-4gRNkxpk36dXti-vlUGpkVkwijfFaTLwuBkqsuHUBBNd015hTtQATzLhDsk2mrDTrKo-pD5wQJ4lY3DoZSQAdrMo5tvYjc7Fr9WgJ8X_I/s2048/ACS_0200.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="625" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN00ibeSQoo3aVuDKUAk2rhTRtZfEzmf_nF-4gRNkxpk36dXti-vlUGpkVkwijfFaTLwuBkqsuHUBBNd015hTtQATzLhDsk2mrDTrKo-pD5wQJ4lY3DoZSQAdrMo5tvYjc7Fr9WgJ8X_I/w469-h625/ACS_0200.JPG" width="469" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVKFGO_owrC_Q2ztalSreaberzq9qBoa1souMgnV0y6uOTu7czKhw67BUNuqgL563nzwlAJOaJr45xU17XWTD-GQzRPv7sQgK0FD5e-MHgsWsM4XXeAbLC1zQQ8taBNchBMgkXzjSE9PU/s2048/ACS_0207.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="625" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVKFGO_owrC_Q2ztalSreaberzq9qBoa1souMgnV0y6uOTu7czKhw67BUNuqgL563nzwlAJOaJr45xU17XWTD-GQzRPv7sQgK0FD5e-MHgsWsM4XXeAbLC1zQQ8taBNchBMgkXzjSE9PU/w469-h625/ACS_0207.JPG" width="469" /></a></div><br /><p>The pattern has wide pleats down the front. Previous reviewers said that the pleats just flapped open. I tried top-stitching the pleats to see if this would help, but it didn't, so then I went and stitched the pleats down at intervals, as you can see in the top lightened photo. </p><p>I also have trouble styling the dark green twill so that they don't look masculine / fuddy-duddy. I have been wearing them because they are warm, but not out of the house so much.</p>katherine hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17314030133556269765noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7351864927910092883.post-82400016155145847252020-08-20T00:53:00.001-07:002020-08-20T00:53:08.510-07:00Tessuti Sydney Jacket<p>Whilst I was getting photos of my dress the other day, I also got some photos of my <a href="https://www.tessuti-shop.com/products/sydney-jacket-pattern" target="_blank">Tessuti Sydney Jacket</a>.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEityygCbwXT4tqsQ2h-cL8aQgPeBoWi7_MuEIRBz30OBEXprnPqvA88LTW3Bd24AyVBFyACJTINAm6yOMCe4Ph7N-UBYdxeeVT1pgD8pvb8FUOfAtgnuiCFjH2uQhZDlQzL0duhhQHmiMg/s2048/ACS_0062.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1301" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEityygCbwXT4tqsQ2h-cL8aQgPeBoWi7_MuEIRBz30OBEXprnPqvA88LTW3Bd24AyVBFyACJTINAm6yOMCe4Ph7N-UBYdxeeVT1pgD8pvb8FUOfAtgnuiCFjH2uQhZDlQzL0duhhQHmiMg/s640/ACS_0062.JPG" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZkHPJOs4h9F9Q3eyNrhMiyTa44yTLJG02KV0ao7brKI-_MUp2GH7c3KDKKYjgR-oRq9fArXyFKrnJ_P0bf61aEDtfuqwkrtvmv8-PTRqgmECT-RB1dLjPvGL0Dhee6K8KcE-dp6FdlVg/s2048/ACS_0063.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1438" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZkHPJOs4h9F9Q3eyNrhMiyTa44yTLJG02KV0ao7brKI-_MUp2GH7c3KDKKYjgR-oRq9fArXyFKrnJ_P0bf61aEDtfuqwkrtvmv8-PTRqgmECT-RB1dLjPvGL0Dhee6K8KcE-dp6FdlVg/s640/ACS_0063.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The pattern is designed for fabrics whose edges don't fray. These photos are from last summer. I used the <a href="https://elbetextiles.com.au/products/sorrento-bucket-hat-digital-sewing-pattern" target="_blank">Sorrento bucket hat, by Elbe textiles</a>. I did make the brim wider than the pattern, for a bit more sun coverage. Both fabrics were scraps from other projects. I like that I can squash it down and keep it in my bag.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOTC00rybVttzKYPSNhy2JLWVCgjNKlH3OQSeOX4xexSBEQHJjPwsfM5xdWf22NX99uppJdLhA3RIkGppddrfRIbCmi75vMKyoY0_kCMEheWk_WiCx0w2RKOlbWWkrkLemvnLKdabp0Ls/s2048/IMG_3429.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1531" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOTC00rybVttzKYPSNhy2JLWVCgjNKlH3OQSeOX4xexSBEQHJjPwsfM5xdWf22NX99uppJdLhA3RIkGppddrfRIbCmi75vMKyoY0_kCMEheWk_WiCx0w2RKOlbWWkrkLemvnLKdabp0Ls/s640/IMG_3429.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiquy3HmNH7aBrqcKE6F3I2e5ggro3xQ4fkuOCuPTIILKbGMENsBQnBGBJi7SyvNF9TUTMa3nRQ8ZOb3ZFJiT3RfwI_UfVFdN5Qfp0F9ZbkftMMtjv6wNw0HQQ7j7Y_3lwdt-u3ZdGNZ3Y/s2048/IMG_3421.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiquy3HmNH7aBrqcKE6F3I2e5ggro3xQ4fkuOCuPTIILKbGMENsBQnBGBJi7SyvNF9TUTMa3nRQ8ZOb3ZFJiT3RfwI_UfVFdN5Qfp0F9ZbkftMMtjv6wNw0HQQ7j7Y_3lwdt-u3ZdGNZ3Y/s640/IMG_3421.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p></p>katherine hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17314030133556269765noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7351864927910092883.post-74744001722921477932020-08-07T20:38:00.002-07:002020-08-07T20:38:14.826-07:00Stylearc Portsea Luxe Sweat<p><br /> This is my version of <a href="https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/portsea-luxe-sweat/" target="_blank">Stylearc's Portsea Luxe Sweat</a>, made up in a white sweatshirting from Tessuti.</p><p><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1509" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpSHosk54poLkAGOFzI0A1euRZsZKBMvCyKIeOC5DooQsiar1-FNEGNV2nJQPPrz1GKpEf8jylzyk36Uz1_MChzuQDnElXQAWGZqIW-gI0qpE1JWr8wEai6jZ5WCzEqWindK9Z4JcNyuQ/s640/IMG_4677.JPG" /></p><p><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1537" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlcPVhCI1n2ezDi2L7Odd2oWpJUI0wX2ZmV3cfxlJ0JPZTNISGypEQK5NwOm2fMy7UXHhyphenhyphenLChvd7dXiOrgZJ6P-NR9CtHdXbpnNELk9O30cTA2bfP-crSDdxKLXGn9xdl_s2SWMPeBjBQ/s640/IMG_4678.JPG" /></p><p><br /></p><p>The only change I made was to remove the neckband, after basting, overlocking and coverstitching it in place, because I decided I wasn't happy with how it was sitting after all. I love the huge side pockets, so I think there will be more pairs made! <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I decided to make these in a single fabric, rather than go with the colour blocking options. Do you ever wish that you hadn't photographed your sewing? I've been wearing these for weeks without realising that there were two dark motifs at my groin....seems so obvious that the print placement is not balanced, now that I have taken this photo.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The fabric was purchased from <a href="https://www.pitttrading.com.au/printed-lycra" target="_blank">Pitt Trading</a>. I think it is an athletic, moisture-wicking polyester spandex. It is super stretchy.</div>

I made a matching bra. I can't tell you too much about it because I made it weeks ago and it was a mash-up of different patterns and my own modifications. My best guess is that I started with <a href="https://jalie.com/jalie3247-crop-tops-gym-shorts-pattern" target="_blank">Jalie 3247</a> and changed the elastic underband to be a separate piece. </div>

These photos were taken pre-dawn at <a href="https://parks.dpaw.wa.gov.au/site/loop-natures-window" target="_blank">Nature's Window in Kalbarri National Park</a>. We thought we were going to be the only ones there, and then about 2 minutes before sunrise, 30 more people turned up.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is a <a href="https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/sunny-top/" target="_blank">Stylearc Sunny</a> top that I made up in a cotton fleece. I bought this pattern based on the line drawing, and did not realise that it is intended for drapy or slinky knits. This would explain why the sleeves are slim and not really suitable for layering over long-sleeved tops. Works well over a t-shirt though. I will wear this, but next time I make this pattern up, I will try the recommended fabrics.</div>

<br />
I started with a jumper for me, made using the <a href="https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-storefront-catalog/patterns/women/tops--vests/simplicity-pattern-8529-misses-knit-sweaters/" target="_blank">Sew House Seven for Simplicity 8529</a>. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
You can see from the photo below that the cuffs and bottom band are cut the same size as the section of garment they are attached to, as directed by the pattern pieces. Depending on your fabric / ribbing, you may prefer to reduce the length of the ribbing so that it stretches as it is attached. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
My scraps were smaller after this projecr, but I managed to put together a pair of <a href="https://elbetextiles.com.au/products/trigg-shorts-digital-sewing-pattern" target="_blank">Trigg shorts</a> for my hubby, just changing the pockets to be patch pockets on the front, and leaving them un-hemmed..</div>

I did have enough scraps left over to make a pair of shorts for my son, only my daughter came in and saw all the fabric bits laid out and decided that she'd like to make a pair of shorts for herself. Which she did, but I don't have photos to show you.</div>
<br />
Now I only have straggly scraps left, but they are the mostly from the fabric with the moose print, which I love, so I am still hesitant to throw them out.<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First up is <a href="https://jalie.com/jalie3667-marie-claude-raglan-pullovers" target="_blank">Jalie 3667 Marie Claude</a>. I took this one in at the side seams, but looking at this photo, I think I took it in through the chest area a little too much. Something to remember for next time. This merino was from The Fabric Store and is a lovely quality.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDZ1hyp8Cte-TPjyQLyq1Y3eAcqfydde2_c1kZ0cD5eN28VyRxHWzeVWkLGEKHpaqeCZPytROd206Y_uFXc3SNrcwWPFZMFZZb98WZIiWIPh7AVzFctzxD0bg86NdlZa0kMOPzuyA1N8I/s1600/IMG_3786.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDZ1hyp8Cte-TPjyQLyq1Y3eAcqfydde2_c1kZ0cD5eN28VyRxHWzeVWkLGEKHpaqeCZPytROd206Y_uFXc3SNrcwWPFZMFZZb98WZIiWIPh7AVzFctzxD0bg86NdlZa0kMOPzuyA1N8I/s640/IMG_3786.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
One change I did make to the pattern was to swap out the cuffs for the cuffs in <a href="https://blog.fehrtrade.com/book/" target="_blank">Fehr Trade's activewear sewing book</a>. I've tried a few different ways to sew cuffs with thumb holes, but have not settled on a preferred method yet.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Next up was a running tank top, my own pattern. This merino was also from The Fabric Store and does not feel as good quality as the previous fabric. It is a little on the sheer side and recovery is not as good. Pretty colour though.</div>
<br />

<br />
Turns out that I bought this same fabric twice without realising. Does that ever happen to you? Stash storage issues...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I made up a t-shirt with the next length of material, using the pattern <a href="https://sewblooms.blogspot.com/2019/06/sew-your-own-activewear-loose-fitting.html" target="_blank">I drafted for this shirt</a>. Only, I forgot how clever I was when I first drafted the tee, and so forgot that the sleeve seams do not line up with the side seams, so first time I inserted the sleeves they were rotated about a quarter of the way around. Took me a few minutes to work out why they looked so strange when I tried it on. Bummer. Anyway, some quality time with the seam ripper and now they are inserted correctly.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I made my hubby a shirt using <a href="https://jalie.com/jalie2918-men-s-t-shirts" target="_blank">Jalie 2918</a>. I used the pattern I traced off years and years ago, but it turns out he likes his t-shirts closer fitting these days, so he is finding this shirt a little loose. Next time I will have to remember to trace off a smaller size. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTBhoS25ocygi86nQTm5bPE4AiSe4Dxyyeoy41UFNzcZTFq0JUiet_5OcnpOT4-jwP4lYYJ04w5Jz3IvhMsFMgnYnvdW1hOHhiqZuMeoxfv22nYY4wklJ66oGq-qFa23u2etio8wAUhFc/s1600/IMG_3895.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1280" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTBhoS25ocygi86nQTm5bPE4AiSe4Dxyyeoy41UFNzcZTFq0JUiet_5OcnpOT4-jwP4lYYJ04w5Jz3IvhMsFMgnYnvdW1hOHhiqZuMeoxfv22nYY4wklJ66oGq-qFa23u2etio8wAUhFc/s640/IMG_3895.JPG" width="512" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Another singlet for me, this time using <a href="https://jalie.com/jalie2568-women-s-underwear-pattern" target="_blank">Jalie 2568</a>. This one was not intended for exercise, but I must have been getting late on in my washing cycle the day I wore and photographed this. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlAQt2sA8gsz-k32WZIE6aWqT4NcqINuMlGWHS5UoJb8u4_mWN5fHCZ5l63JNP4ECIpDj8ggkAHlCYsy5qoj5M8tuQQ3YNGmTOjQbVLGQljxBGMe3_qXAuK2QNAbIyJJxxlCoxfSW6mi0/s1600/IMG_3898.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1308" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlAQt2sA8gsz-k32WZIE6aWqT4NcqINuMlGWHS5UoJb8u4_mWN5fHCZ5l63JNP4ECIpDj8ggkAHlCYsy5qoj5M8tuQQ3YNGmTOjQbVLGQljxBGMe3_qXAuK2QNAbIyJJxxlCoxfSW6mi0/s640/IMG_3898.JPG" width="522" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I combined the scraps from both fabrics to make one more singlet, this time using <a href="https://jalie.com/jalie3245-raglan-tee-racerback-tank-tunic-pattern" target="_blank">Jalie 3245</a>. It is a little snug around the hips because I didn't have quite enough fabric.</div>

In these photos, the shirt is looking a little tight. All the shirts in my photos lately look a little tight. The photo below shows the real problem. I'm trying to kid myself that it is swimming muscle, but possibly all my extra iso weight went to my back?? Is that a thing?? Anyway, I have only recently come to the realisation that I need to start doing broad back alterations. </div>

It was only after I bought this pattern that I realised that it was similar to one I already had - <a href="https://jalie.com/jalie3352-dolman-top-sewing-pattern" target="_blank">Jalie 3352</a>. That can happen when you own too many patterns :) Anyway, I pulled out my Jalie for comparison, and you can see the difference in the photo below (back pieces). It looks like the Jalie has a little more room under the arms, so I might be better off using it next time.</div>

I am wearing the shirt with cuffs and not sleeves in the above photos, but you can see in the pattern comparison below, that the long sleeves of the Jalie are more tapered than the Astair.<br />

I made this bag for my Mum for Mother's Day. It was a little bit late. I bought the main fabric months ago, from Spotlight, because it looked like a print that she would like. Then with all the Covid isolation goings on, I completely forgot about it. Then when I remembered, it was taking weeks and weeks for parcels to be delivered, so I didn't even bother. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Mother's Day came and went, and then I was asked to sew a tote bag as part of a present for a friend, which I did. I had forgotten how satisfying bag making can be. Choosing the fabric, scrabbling through the stash for supplies and hardware, getting just the pockets you need, sewing cotton that behaves well and not having to worry about fit issues! I enjoyed it so much that as soon as I finished my friend's bag, I started on this one for my Mum.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-7mwuaIw1FlLJOotKB_QDlh6R5vkX3iH1ALg4OSNGhYhLJ_6MVknUWhO3TQCm_g2s3RwmQGhIhuSYzccs4GZ8g2xP-Cj5JfPS6bQqsZ93_Qs02fA4bzXNM6fFlspsq7ijGbzgAwoJOYg/s1600/IMG_3527.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1184" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-7mwuaIw1FlLJOotKB_QDlh6R5vkX3iH1ALg4OSNGhYhLJ_6MVknUWhO3TQCm_g2s3RwmQGhIhuSYzccs4GZ8g2xP-Cj5JfPS6bQqsZ93_Qs02fA4bzXNM6fFlspsq7ijGbzgAwoJOYg/s640/IMG_3527.JPG" width="472" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The bag pattern is based on the gingham tote in<a href="https://noodle-head.com/my-book" target="_blank"> "handmade style" by Anna Graham of Noodlehead</a>. I left off the exterior pockets and changed the interior ones. I also altered the pattern to have the black base.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The main fabric is from the popular <a href="https://www.spotlightstores.com/jocelyn-proust-collection" target="_blank">Jocelyn Proust range at Spotlight</a>. I interfaced the bag with "<a href="https://www.byannie.com/byannies-soft-and-stable" target="_blank">By Annie Soft and Stable</a>". I bought this interfacing several years ago, but this is the first time that I have used it. The bag holds its shape well and the interfacing is light for the amount of bulk it adds. I usually prefer canvas type fabrics for bags so that I don't need to interface them, but I was won over by this print. It is a quilting cotton, and I have since learned that Spotlight carries a Jocelyn Proust range in the upholstery section, which would probably work better. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The yellow fabric is a gorgeous remnant leftover from sewing <a href="http://sewblooms.blogspot.com/2012/04/yellow.html" target="_blank">this skirt</a> eight years ago. I have been saving the scraps for something special. I made the strap adjustable, but I only had one D ring in the right size, so the strap is attached directly to the bag on the other side. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEierhqbPXxTrNT1eq6NbhcKlOMPUWOiAwtpduWid8aCKLKN8_jY3DPKmeJPIS0rt9f0H2d6v3Tsmwo-JaSfBwTwnwNmpARt_bHN2mo13_25xxs6BXXGzCJXpbkfEj4RHj6JkGh3qXZxCxg/s1600/IMG_3526.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1180" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEierhqbPXxTrNT1eq6NbhcKlOMPUWOiAwtpduWid8aCKLKN8_jY3DPKmeJPIS0rt9f0H2d6v3Tsmwo-JaSfBwTwnwNmpARt_bHN2mo13_25xxs6BXXGzCJXpbkfEj4RHj6JkGh3qXZxCxg/s640/IMG_3526.JPG" width="472" /></a></div>
<br />
My stash of zips is getting quite low, so I was quite pleased that I found this orange zip of a suitable length.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYlcE_KPYlZiOe508oeRywVHMUHJ2x9YUpeRAreuRcHEmUohyK8_Mi-lc8bErseNemtavWidHga3xVTfpH_2MCXv3VgPTPDLaRhQSlV534Vi2IJ__1j3tm7VtZJ3gCEft3jqynFw94BJ4/s1600/IMG_3530.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYlcE_KPYlZiOe508oeRywVHMUHJ2x9YUpeRAreuRcHEmUohyK8_Mi-lc8bErseNemtavWidHga3xVTfpH_2MCXv3VgPTPDLaRhQSlV534Vi2IJ__1j3tm7VtZJ3gCEft3jqynFw94BJ4/s640/IMG_3530.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I have been using this next bag as my daily bag for a few months now.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8glJXMSQaMvuLhcSxIOX8lEpcBHOc3n05biQ1YvPMDx3obswYKOffDkl_hJURoTtEy9hgBPTCTe6Tp2Ul39PEvowFoTttYmbYB1_nfLNd_YbNj1RBSp7G6WTE9yxTQBODkyZt_u2Qvmk/s1600/IMG_3575.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1128" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8glJXMSQaMvuLhcSxIOX8lEpcBHOc3n05biQ1YvPMDx3obswYKOffDkl_hJURoTtEy9hgBPTCTe6Tp2Ul39PEvowFoTttYmbYB1_nfLNd_YbNj1RBSp7G6WTE9yxTQBODkyZt_u2Qvmk/s640/IMG_3575.JPG" width="450" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It might be hard to recognise, but the main bag pattern pieces are from the <a href="https://swoonpatterns.com/shop/sydney-crossbody-bag/" target="_blank">Sydney Cross-body bag by Swoon patterns</a>. I have greatly simplified the bag, leaving off the zips and once again changing the pockets to suit. You can see this pattern made up fully <a href="https://sewblooms.blogspot.com/2018/10/swoon-pattern-sydney-crossbody-bag.html" target="_blank">in this post</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The main fabric is a beautiful outdoor canvas. I bought a remnant piece from <a href="https://www.otillyandlewis.com.au/products/for-all-fabric/" target="_blank">Otilly & Lewis</a> and have been hoarding for years. It is firm enough that no interfacing was needed.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgijJyRFkkKcxeeJ_Pt2UVDzHxOHa4UHTj5uJxsatmvlKQ10VonN0Korc5nxMOWg30LycIdN-RDGqRIb6yCCTveSgQkcWuOklYCGb7AkurdVlUo00idYvjJEIkRKAsUNyXOltIm6aAcMfg/s1600/IMG_3573.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgijJyRFkkKcxeeJ_Pt2UVDzHxOHa4UHTj5uJxsatmvlKQ10VonN0Korc5nxMOWg30LycIdN-RDGqRIb6yCCTveSgQkcWuOklYCGb7AkurdVlUo00idYvjJEIkRKAsUNyXOltIm6aAcMfg/s640/IMG_3573.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The lining is a quilting cotton leftover from making my quilt. The pockets are scraps left from refashioning a silk Tommy Bahamas shirt that my husband didn't like into a tank top for my daughter (I don't think I ever blogged this project). If you look on the left side of the bag in the below photo, you can see that I made a side pocket for my glasses, which makes it much quicker to find them in my bag.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihsETs1CT7V2aBYATbPwTG0PkAzDgnmjkV18SYBgV9TmsAl0KwZZM2Bp0hFK8pch0_32bLqlCBLrqUUoLxJO6uShw0PVESD5c04W1L_HYFlWZtPqCVKiD5IbTcm_4iiExPXolJ2qeBR0Y/s1600/IMG_3570.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihsETs1CT7V2aBYATbPwTG0PkAzDgnmjkV18SYBgV9TmsAl0KwZZM2Bp0hFK8pch0_32bLqlCBLrqUUoLxJO6uShw0PVESD5c04W1L_HYFlWZtPqCVKiD5IbTcm_4iiExPXolJ2qeBR0Y/s640/IMG_3570.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I got to use the silk on the inside of the interior zip pocket as well. Only I can see this silk, but I love the print, so it makes me happy whenever I open the pocket.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVYosP1qEBE-SJsQI__hAIRyhKu4j0Spk6UjNwW_cULVwqUsEQ3dYWsqqRaP_V10IMl4W7QRFcJFbQCKkIymy-I7tBp4NcoLvCkbeN-aT9d8B6IFW0lHLZFtwSFh6UCVFDle47JAMcvUU/s1600/IMG_3571.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVYosP1qEBE-SJsQI__hAIRyhKu4j0Spk6UjNwW_cULVwqUsEQ3dYWsqqRaP_V10IMl4W7QRFcJFbQCKkIymy-I7tBp4NcoLvCkbeN-aT9d8B6IFW0lHLZFtwSFh6UCVFDle47JAMcvUU/s640/IMG_3571.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This bag sat unfinished for months, because I could not decide on a fabric for the strap. Nothing in my stash seemed suitable, or quite the right shade. Eventually I had the idea to embroider a scrap leftover from $2/m textured white fabric that I had used to muslin a coat. I rarely have the patience to use the embroidery stitches on my machine. I'm really happy I did because I love the result. <br />

How many patterns do you have that you have never sewn? I have too many. Especially pdf patterns, which you would think I would only buy if I was going to use them right away. Somehow it doesn't work like that. Anyway, I am glad that I finally made up the <a href="https://paprikapatterns.com/shop/jasper-sweater-dress/" target="_blank">Jasper Sweater Dress by Paprika Patterns</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRzpmt51MDFoFCfpCpntZo5uKTWpnClVtkpT7xi0FNdWZBtr6QffDewaRS-nKHqJFbsweXjp1VixLJnH27TrgIHfpi3AuryMQIF-742KFOKuWFpdHyX1ZOI04A8yV3EwhTmKxNNa-ifV0/s1600/IMG_3579.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRzpmt51MDFoFCfpCpntZo5uKTWpnClVtkpT7xi0FNdWZBtr6QffDewaRS-nKHqJFbsweXjp1VixLJnH27TrgIHfpi3AuryMQIF-742KFOKuWFpdHyX1ZOI04A8yV3EwhTmKxNNa-ifV0/s640/IMG_3579.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOq09IhXqNNZXF_WQRXyVhRzshPtSzI-TzbLOlryiT6536wo6ej1c8KVETiGKRkdoF3PGJXfbfQp-WTFMQJod79xNxsybM1cZZbWOoeqhntLJBSoR8aCCKTdEDSvS-cG22w4-HDyRa-P8/s1600/IMG_3584.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOq09IhXqNNZXF_WQRXyVhRzshPtSzI-TzbLOlryiT6536wo6ej1c8KVETiGKRkdoF3PGJXfbfQp-WTFMQJod79xNxsybM1cZZbWOoeqhntLJBSoR8aCCKTdEDSvS-cG22w4-HDyRa-P8/s640/IMG_3584.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I shortened the dress by about 7 cm. It doesn't feel too short, but looking at these photos, perhaps I cut off a tad too much.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The dress has princess seaming. I didn't make a big deal of trying to pattern match, but I did try to keep the deer lined up all on the same level.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The fabric is a <a href="https://seeyouatsix.be/en/deer-m-french-terry-trellis-blue" target="_blank">French terry by See you at Six</a>. I bought it, and the matching ribbing, from <a href="https://www.maaidesign.com.au/collections/french-terry" target="_blank">Maai Design</a>. I didn't have enough ribbing for the cuffs (I was planning something different when I bought the fabric), so I made the sleeves longer and hemmed them.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I wish I had remembered to take a close-up of the button. It matches perfectly. I found it in the jar of Liberty buttons given to me by a friend.</div>

I made them in the summer and had to wait a few weeks until it was cool enough to wear them. I forget where the t-shirt fabric is from, but it is quite a beefy cotton spandex. The Hudsons are made from a beautiful quality cotton spandex knit from <a href="https://www.fabulousfabrics.com.au/" target="_blank">Fabulous Fabrics</a>. The striped cotton ribbing is from Spotlight, leftover from another project.</div>

I get excited when Jalie launches their pattern collection each year. Normally I select all the ones I want and get them all in one go to minimise shipping. Shipping to Australia has been disrupted lately, so I decided to go ahead and download the pattern that I was most excited about, and I will order paper copies of the other patterns later. First up is the <a href="https://sewing.patternreview.com/Patterns/101060" target="_blank">Coco Sport Bra</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I've come to realise lately that my collection of Jalie patterns is under-utilised, largely due to sewing the wrong size first time around and not taking the time to sew a different size or make the necessary fitting changes. This time I was determined to stick with the pattern until I got it right.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Version 1</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
My first version is made out of the merino scraps on my sewing table after sewing a bunch of merino tees and singlets. I have read blog reviews of merino bras and been curious to try them, but not wanted to pay the RTW price tag. I started with Size V.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I didn't have enough merino for the whole thing, so the straps are from a wicking sports fabric.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRwe9E146wF1T7NPElOVXnTG0bTmU4iEhUhJcdl2bX7i1MuSZPbco2p9NVdGWS8_7Rp6savuKThh6YWRaOdfCBPFLB1m9L9EiFz2pY124VFPpic-rinE7Oaj4-4HdMpRGEpjP4x9Ph8q4/s1600/IMG_3545.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRwe9E146wF1T7NPElOVXnTG0bTmU4iEhUhJcdl2bX7i1MuSZPbco2p9NVdGWS8_7Rp6savuKThh6YWRaOdfCBPFLB1m9L9EiFz2pY124VFPpic-rinE7Oaj4-4HdMpRGEpjP4x9Ph8q4/s640/IMG_3545.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
My cover-stitch machine struggled with all the layers to attach the band.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have only worn this for one run so far. The merino is more comfortable than I expected, but overall the bra is too big. It might be good for hiking in cold weather.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Version 2</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I went down a size to U for my second version. The outer is supplex and the inner is a wicking cotton. I have put an extra layer of power mesh in the front cups. I used the same mesh for the inner centre front panel.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
When I was trying this on, before adding the band, I decided that there was too much length in the bra overall. Instead of cutting off this extra length, I decided to add the elastic directly to the bra and fold it to the inside, which you can see on the inside shots. This elastic does not have as much give as regular elastic and has a fluffy side which sits against the skin.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This one is comfortable to wear but it feels like the straps are a bit long. I am happy to finally have a bra to match my leggings in the same fabric, as sherbert orange / yellow / pink is more difficult to match that you might think.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Version 3.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
For my third version, I removed 2 cm of length from the bottom of the pieces for size U. I also removed 2 cm from the straps. The outer is from supplex scraps and the inner from lightweight cotton knit. Again, I put an extra layer of power mesh in the cups.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I skipped the coverstitch machine and used a zig-zag stitch on my regular machine to attach the band.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I wore this for a run this morning and it worked well. I am unsure whether I should go down another size. With the pools shut, I haven't been swimming for a while now, and I have lost a couple of cm circumference across my back, so I think that this will be the right size if I take up swimming again. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
For all of these, I used a narrow 6mm rubber elastic in the seams. </div>
<br />
I'm glad I took the time to play around with the fit of this bra, as it is a great pattern for using up scraps.katherine hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17314030133556269765noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7351864927910092883.post-12865050187063329752020-05-08T02:35:00.001-07:002020-05-08T02:35:21.068-07:00All the blue thingsI had to make the most of the overlocker being threaded in blue after my recent projects.<br />
<br />
First up, another pair of <a href="https://elbetextiles.com.au/products/trigg-shorts-digital-sewing-pattern" target="_blank">Trigg shorts</a> in the leftover linen. I think I am up to 7 times using this pattern now, so definitely a winner.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFm_UoLFEJSfdaJs58XxjQw6sXWkaQiNZrVxArJObyyu3gBsLfA4DyFseuoAeo4xFrJ2v4qdOiRBdLGedF-MTAmbzf708L_GfVF5nhMsAS0QR4p5fPFrH-7TQaDWtJHQRoRJCgMEg7v_E/s1600/IMG_3431.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1180" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFm_UoLFEJSfdaJs58XxjQw6sXWkaQiNZrVxArJObyyu3gBsLfA4DyFseuoAeo4xFrJ2v4qdOiRBdLGedF-MTAmbzf708L_GfVF5nhMsAS0QR4p5fPFrH-7TQaDWtJHQRoRJCgMEg7v_E/s640/IMG_3431.JPG" width="472" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Then a <a href="https://jalie.com/jalie2805-girls-women-s-t-shirts" target="_blank">Jalie 2805 t-shirt</a> in the leftover Liberty jersey. I'm sure this fits better in real life than the photo shows. It has got cold here since I made this, so I have hardly had a chance to wear it, and then I got a quick photo snapped in the dying light one evening. I went up several sizes in the t-shirt to get a looser fit than the pattern photo and I changed the V-neckline to a scoop neckline.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
When I was rummaging around looking for possible options for neck binding for the above t-shirt, I came across a <a href="https://shop.fehrtrade.com/products/vna-top" target="_blank">Fehr Trade VNA top</a> that I cut out of merino 6 years ago when I made one for a friend. I obviously never got around to making up my own. I didn't want to fuss with the corners / binding, so I re-cut the armholes and neckline. This is perfect for wearing under my new blue shirts.</div>
<br />

<br />
I was hoping to get a blue sports bra made whilst the blue thread was in the overlocker, but another project became more pressing. I don't mind though, because since then, Jalie have released their new patterns and now I have a new sports bra pattern to try out. Usually I buy a heap of Jalies when they are released, but I don't know how international shipping to Australia is working at the moment, so I have just bought the one pdf for now. <br />
<br />
Now my overlocker is threaded in red, and I am sewing all the red things. <br />

In my parcel from Pitt Trading last week, I had a length of bobbely white lycra. It is listed on their website as <a href="https://www.pitttrading.com.au/product-page/winter-white-textured-spot-lycra" target="_blank">winter white textured spot lycra</a>, and was described as suitable for swimwear and activewear. At first I was dissapointed, as it was lighter and more sheer than I expected. You would need a good lining to use this for swimwear!! It does have a lovely feel though, so it only took me a day or so to adjust my plans and decide that it was perfect for lingerie.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I bought a metre, so I have enough fabric to make several sets. First time around, I went with the <a href="https://shop.clothhabit.com/products/watson-bra-bikini" target="_blank">Watson bra and bikini pattern by Cloth Habit</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
For the bra, I used a lightweight mesh for the lining. I also put in underwire casing at the underbust seam. I have done this on other bralette patterns, but not on the Watson before. I was a little worried about bulk at the centre V. I sewed both the casing cups in one continuous length, then snipped the centre V and top-stitched from the right side.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This actually turned out neater than I expected.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigsOQbwBGQ_3WYF3y1uvlLDhrWGw79GLyuXUhTFhehPn8sWm5pZ9J_xHV1KhhDAaFofN8n4UmfZ-tbf7YNB0MoAZHRjrW6YOMZptcmbkIj-ipkYP_1LoYJMEVoz8uba6JOC9jsgCnEyFg/s1600/IMG_3372.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigsOQbwBGQ_3WYF3y1uvlLDhrWGw79GLyuXUhTFhehPn8sWm5pZ9J_xHV1KhhDAaFofN8n4UmfZ-tbf7YNB0MoAZHRjrW6YOMZptcmbkIj-ipkYP_1LoYJMEVoz8uba6JOC9jsgCnEyFg/s640/IMG_3372.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I only had just enough strapping elastic. I probably should have left off the bra sliders, as they have been slid to maximum strap length.<br />
<br />
This is my fourth Watson bra. My past 3 have been worn, but they have never been my favourites. In the past, I always thought my fabric choices were too stretchy. This fabric is not too stretchy, so I think it is actually a fitting thing. I think I need to alter the bra cup seam shape a little. I have plenty of this fabric, so I might try this in the same fabric again.<br />
<br />

<br />
I have decided that my personal style is on the utilitarian side, and a linen over-shirt would be something that I would wear a lot. I tweaked the <a href="https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/melody-tunic/" target="_blank">Stylearc Melody tunic</a> to get this look.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
My changes included shortening the tunic by 5 cm, straightening the side seams (though I could have slimmed them a little more) and changing the back gathers to a tuck. I also straightened the sleeves, eliminated the elastic gathering, sewed a deepish hem on the sleeves and then folded a tuck in the sleeve hem, to mimic the tuck in the back.</div>

<br />
The result is just what I wanted. I did iron this shirt earlier in the day, but there is a bit of a seersucker effect through the checks and it is more crinkly than other linens. Lucky I am okay with that :)katherine hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17314030133556269765noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7351864927910092883.post-23877045555969683232020-04-22T05:55:00.000-07:002020-04-22T05:55:34.784-07:00Morgan Boyfriend JeansI just had my first go at the <a href="https://store.closetcasepatterns.com/products/morgan-boyfriend-jeans-pattern" target="_blank">Morgan Boyfriend Jeans by Closet Case Patterns</a>.<br />
<br />
Okay, so maybe not "boyfriend" in this fabric. <br />

This fabric is a cotton that I bought from <a href="https://potterandco.com.au/collections/cotton" target="_blank">Potter & Co</a>. I'm not sure exactly how to describe it. It is a little like a brocade, with raised texture, but also a little like corduroy, with very thin wales. </div>

I didn't make a muslin. Fitting changes that I made on the run included letting out the hips a little (possibly need to let out a little more), flat pubis adjustment and scooping out the back crotch in an attempt to reduce the under-the-bum wrinkles I always get. I can see that if the legs were skinnier, I would need to do knock-kneed and extended calves adjustments, but it doesn't bother me so much in this leg width and in this fabric. I didn't do the button fly, just a regular zip fly.</div>

The shirt I am wearing is an unblogged make from last year. It is the <a href="https://www.namedclothing.com/shop/geneva-raglan-tee/" target="_blank">Named Geneva raglan tee</a>, made up in a viscose I bought from the <a href="https://morganmarks.com.au/" target="_blank">Morgan and Mark</a>'s fabric sale last year. <br />

These photos were taken at the park near my house, where I have been walking most evenings for the last couple of weeks.katherine hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17314030133556269765noreply@blogger.com2
