We recently went on a last-minute camping trip. Even more last minute, like 9 pm the night before we were leaving, I had a panic that I did not have enough warm clothes. I decided to whip up another pair of Ooh La Leggings. My children were most intrigued and kept interrupting me to ask if I thought that I would finish them in time.
This time around I went down a size, which was a bit brave considering
that I was using a firm fabric. It is stretchy but firm. It all turned out okay, though the firm fabric has highlighted a few fitting issues that would not show up in regular leggings fabric. I lowered the front waist a little, which is normal for me. I think I still need to shorten the front crotch a little, below the curved style line, as a funny tuck is forming there. The only other thing is that I could take in the ankles a bit.
For the record, they took me about an hour to complete. Sadly, I did not have matching thread for my overlocker, and my overlocker is not that great, so I have some white stitching showing through on the seams that are under tension. I did have topstitching thread to match so I used my coverstitch for all the topstitching.
The fabric was substantial enough that I felt I could wear them on their own. I think they look very trim, but the camera disagrees and think that they highlight my pear shape. We all know that the camera lies, so I have cropped the photograph rather than argue with it anymore.
I think they could be styled with a flannelette shirt, but all my flanno shirts seem to have gone by the wayside.
I was hoping to bring you some great campfire shots, but it turned out that the weather was so mild that I did not need them until the last evening, and I had so much trouble gathering everybody up for dinner that night that I forgot to get a photo.
Camera's totally lie. Like, all the time! I just ordered this pattern a few days ago so it's great to see another sewist having sewn it up! Hope you had fun camping :)
ReplyDeleteIt is nice.
ReplyDeleteHee, the camera lies because I make it lie. I cannot sew before trips... I do this weird thing where I completely clean up my sewing room so that I won't think about sewing and just pack. (Of course then I start looking at fabrics online and you know where that goes...)
ReplyDeleteI think they look really trim too, the style lines are so flattering. I just bought some Adidas leggings for running in and they have some pretty cool style lines that help break up my leg silhouette. So I think I'd like to give this pattern a go too, plus it's great to support a New Zealand independent pattern designer :)
ReplyDeleteCameras definitely lie, that is why models are seriously underweight.
ReplyDeleteYour leggings are perfect for camping. I like the style lines and can see why you needed to make them at the last minute. I am hoping to buy this pattern when I visit Brisbane later in the month.I think they would be terrific exercise pants as well as great for campfires with a flannie.
They do look trim! I like the seam that runs up the front.
ReplyDeleteThey look like riding breeches-totally cool! Cameras lie, and also remember that bodies look different when in motion.
ReplyDeleteI think they definitely look very trim and you have great legs. I just love the seaming on that pattern, making it very difficult for me to stick to my boring old self-drafted pattern...
ReplyDeleteDefinitely trim! I think the style lines are very flattering, not to mention interesting and "sporty".
