Over at my other blog - The Strawberry Milk Run - I have published a pattern and tutorials for a colour block bikini. The pattern is free. The links are at the bottom of this post.
Sewing a bikini is probably easier than you think. You don't need a fancy machine, just one that does a zig-zag stitch. You may need to change your needle to a stretch needle, but that is all. And think of the positives - once you can sew your own bikini, you will never need to go swimwear shopping again!
The hardest part will be choosing your colour combinations. Turquoise, watermelon & sunshine yellow would be very summery. If you are more of a bronzed beach goddess, you could combine different metallics together. Prefer something more classic? How about black, white & black? I have gone with peach, copper and jade.

So go on, sew your own bikini! And if you do,I would love to hear how it went.
You are so generous to provide this pattern. Now if I had a bikini body I would certainly take up your kind offer, but it would be better for all if I didn't. Trust me on this.
ReplyDeleteIt's still surprisingly brisk where we are. Summer is yet to arrive.
Oh - I should have waited for your pattern before I made a bikini - this one might have to be the next one I try. It is not really bikini weather here but the spa is warm so mine still gets some use!
ReplyDeleteLove the colour block bikini. I've always admired the bathers that you make and have been thinking of having a go myself. Thanks for making the pattern available for free, I'll definitely be giving it a go.
ReplyDeleteFunny that you did this post as I was thinking about some swimsuit fabric I have in my stash the other day and it happens that some of it is metallic and some has a almost metallic embossed effect to it that I think would be quite perfect for this kind of style!
ReplyDeleteOh, now I want it to be summer! I also would like to have a bikini worthy body, too. Love the color blocking.
ReplyDeleteTwo blogs - how to you keep it up? Great pattern, but alas my bikini days are over too.
ReplyDeleteThe bikini looks lovely! I'll stick with bikinis until someone tells me otherwise, so when (if) it gets summer here I might make use of your generous offer/pattern. I recently found some lycra fabric scraps from my exercise-wear sewing that could be put to good use!
ReplyDeleteOh, this is brilliant! I have the perfect fabric in my stash. Thank you!
