Much as I love sewing, it can be a relief to not sew costumes for bookweek. This year my daughter went as the Queen of Hearts, using a princess dress and crown made ages ago (crown pattern from Ottobre), with a painted cardboard card. My youngest is the Saucepan Man from the Faraway Tree. My oldest is The Man in Black from The 39 Clues. We may not win any costume awards, but all children went to school happily...which as many other parents can attest, is not a given for dress-up days!
Oh this photo brings back memories of hastily constructed costumes for book week. And the Magic Faraway Tree is very special in our house. My eldest's daughters first professional music theatre production was playing Bessie in the MFT. She was 11 years old and the spell of the boards has never left her.
ReplyDeleteHey I'm all for no-sew when it comes to making stuff for little people who may or may not appreciate my efforts!
ReplyDeleteThose costumes look great though! A lot of fun, and they wore them too which is high praise.
So you reckon I should just cut loose on my blog, huh? Hmmm, I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to be as risque as my thoughts .. We'll see. You've been writing your blog for a long time now - since 2007 - you've obviously found a format you can sustain and enjoy.
oh your Queen of hearts card costume is fab!!!!! ♥
ReplyDeleteLove the queen of hearts costume too. My daughter is going as Alice in Wonderland tomorrow - I like your costumes better.
ReplyDeletevery clever Katherine! I'll have to pinch the Queen of Hearts idea :)
ReplyDeleteLove these costumes, they're adorable. Theres a lot to be said for reusing costumes, something perhaps I should consider as I seem to want to go completely crazy every Halloween and leave things till the last minute!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be Astrid from How to train your dragon!!!
